With the development of new technologies for treating and diagnosing diseases, it is essential to integrate classical medical education with the latest advances in the natural sciences. Physicians today have access to cutting-edge techniques based on genetic sequencing technologies, editing and manipulation of genetic information, as well as nuclear medicine, immunology, mass spectrometry, virology, and artificial intelligence. All this allows for a fresh look at the range of courses taught, methodological approaches, and practical classes included in the training of medical students.
The educational program for specialty 31.05.01 "General Medicine" (program: Fundamental Medicine) is distinguished by increased time for educational and professional practical training and the inclusion of pre-graduation practical training in the curriculum, preceding the state final certification. The workload of natural science disciplines (physics, mathematics, chemistry, and biology) has been doubled. In the senior years, courses such as molecular biology and genomics, molecular oncology, medical genetics, clinical laboratory diagnostics, statistical methods in medicine, clinical bioinformatics, molecular endocrinology, molecular immunology, molecular cardiology, cellular technologies in medicine, gene therapy, and regenerative medicine are introduced.
You can find the curriculum and a full description of the educational program "General Medicine, Fundamental Medicine" on the Russian-language version of the Pirogov University website.
