Dmitry Morozov spoke about rare disease surgery — a field in which the Veltishchev Institute holds one of the leading positions. Today, the treatment of complex and orphan pathologies requires the involvement of surgeons, geneticists, endocrinologists, pediatricians, and molecular biologists, which makes it possible to develop personalized treatment strategies.

The Veltishchev Institute is developing unique surgical technologies, including sympathectomy for heart rhythm disorders in children. In some cases, this technology makes it possible to avoid the installation of a pacemaker, and the accumulated experience is already being disseminated across the regions of Russia.

During the meeting, they also discussed the digitalization of healthcare, patient routing, competence centers, injury prevention, and first aid training. Special attention was paid to the training of specialists capable of working at the intersection of different disciplines.

One of the topics was the discrete residency program, which Pirogov University is implementing as part of a pilot project to improve higher education. The new format allows students to start working in a clinic after the first year of study and complete the second stage of training either immediately or at a later time.

“A future specialist must think like a pediatrician, act like a surgeon, and analyze the situation like a representative of the exact sciences, possessing knowledge in genetics and molecular biology,” Dmitry Morozov noted.

 The press conference became a platform for discussing the key areas of development in modern pediatric medicine — from the treatment of rare diseases and the introduction of advanced technologies to new approaches to personnel training.
