Experts from Pirogov University took part in the forum "Russia and the World: Trends in healthy longevity"

The forum focuses on the prevention of diseases, the development of modern medical technologies and the formation of an effective system of healthy longevity. One of the key events of the forum was the session "Biotechnologies of regenerative Biomedicine: from personalization to scaling".

The moderator was Veronika Skvortsova, Head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia (FMBA of Russia). She noted that regenerative medicine today covers a wide range of technologies, from molecular biology and cell therapy to bioengineering, and the development of biocompatible solutions, standardization and quality control of cellular and tissue products remain among the key tasks of the industry.

Olga Tkacheva, Director of the Russian Scientific Research Center of Pirogov University, dedicated her speech to the possibilities of regenerative medicine in the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases:

"Regenerative medicine is one of the most promising areas in gerontology. A separate promising area is senolytics, that is, drugs and treatments that can destroy old cells. The Russian Scientific Research Center of Pirogov University is focused on working with such molecules. Three senolytic molecules have now been synthesized, two of them have already passed preclinical tests on laboratory animals, and we are ready to move on to clinical trials. The potential of senolytic drugs and senolytic vaccines is very high, both for the treatment of sarcopenia and for other age—related conditions."

Vladimir Chekhonin, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Medical Nanobiotechnology at the Institute of Biomedicine (MBF), spoke about the development of key areas of regenerative medicine and the implementation of fundamental research results in practical healthcare.:

"Today, we understand that without eliminating certain disorders in the genome, we cannot effectively treat a wide range of diseases. Cell and gene therapy, tissue engineering, and 3D bioprinting are areas that are actively developing all over the world and in our country. Today we are already seeing concrete results of their clinical application, and in the near future these technologies should be further developed and more widely implemented in medical practice."

The participation of Pirogov University specialists in the discussion confirmed the significant role of the University in the development of modern biomedical technologies and the formation of the scientific agenda in the field of healthy longevity.
