The conference brought together students, colleagues and followers of the academician, leading experts in the field of pediatrics and neonatology, who shared their memories of their teacher, his scientific heritage and principles of work. The participants noted that one of Vyacheslav Tabolin's main professional precepts was the principle of three "Co's" — empathy, compassion and empathy, which remains the moral basis of the work of a pediatrician today. During the event, a documentary film about the life and scientific path of the academician was shown, and after the conference, flowers were laid at his memorial plaque.

Vyacheslav Tabolin's long-term activity occupies a special place in the history of Pirogov University. From 1963 to 2007, he headed the Department of Hospital Pediatrics of the 2nd Moscow Order of Lenin State Medical Institute, later RSMU (Pirogov University), forming one of the largest Russian scientific schools. Under his leadership, the foundations of modern neonatology as an independent medical specialty were laid, new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of newborn diseases were developed, the first specialized departments of newborn pathology were established and comprehensive programs for the study of perinatal pathology and hereditary diseases were introduced. In 2015, the Department of Hospital Pediatrics at Pirogov University was named after Academician V.A. Tabolin, which recognized his outstanding contribution to the development of Russian medical science and education.

"Vyacheslav Tabolin is an academician, whose name is associated with the main discoveries in Russian pediatrics of the 60-80-ies of the last century. Every modern pediatric doctor knows his scientific works, and his ideas continue to live on in our daily work. I'm his student. And many pediatricians in our country are also his students, because his scientific school has shaped several generations of doctors. I was lucky enough to study at the Department of Hospital Pediatrics No. 1 under the supervision of Vyacheslav Alexandrovich Tabolin, and attend a student scientific circle, where a real interest in science and profession was born. Vyacheslav Alexandrovich was a unique personality. He was the founder of the first department of neonatal pathology in Moscow and in Russia. He stood at the origins of such an important strategic discipline as perinatal medicine, and justified the tactics and strategy for the further development of this field. His book “Hereditary diseases in children”, written in collaboration with academicians L.O. Badalyan and Yu.E. Veltishchev. It is still a reference book for pediatricians and geneticists. He is distinguished by his great love for students. He very often held meetings of the student scientific circle himself, communicated with students and gave many a start in life. His numerous students and followers will remember the country's most important children's doctor for a long time," said Lidiya Ilyenko, Director of the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University.

The memory of Vyacheslav Tabolin continues to live not only in his fundamental scientific works and the national school of neonatology created by him, but also in the work of the department bearing his name, as well as in the professional activities of thousands of doctors whom he educated personally and through his students. The ideas of V. Tabolin still determine the development of pediatrics and neonatology, and the traditions laid down by him remain an important part of the educational and scientific mission of Pirogov University.
