How scientific platforms are changing medicine: Musa Khaitov presented developments at SPIEF 2026

Scientific developments that show how fundamental research is turning into real medical solutions were presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026.

The focus is on a platform—based approach to creating medicines. Its essence is to develop a whole range of solutions for the treatment of various diseases on the basis of a single scientific and technological platform. This approach helps to move faster from ideas and research to clinical practice, and in the long run, to increase the availability of innovative therapy for patients.

Musa Khaitov, Head of the Department of Immunology at the Institute of Biomedicine (MBF) at Pirogov University and Director of the Institute of Immunology at the FMBA of Russia, spoke about the key areas.:

"To date, we are developing new drugs that function based on the mechanism of RNA interference. They use technologies that specifically block the expression of certain genes associated with the development of diseases. Our current task is drugs for the treatment of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. They are currently at the stage of preclinical studies and already surpass their foreign counterparts in their specific activity."

Pirogov University's participation in SPIEF 2026 shows that the development of modern medicine is impossible without combining fundamental science, clinical experience and technological solutions. It is at this intersection that developments appear that can change approaches to the treatment of serious diseases.
