According to Sergey Lukyanov, modern medical science is rapidly moving towards personalized solutions, but this process is accompanied by significant challenges.:
"Pirogov University has gained extensive experience in developments that are being implemented in real practice. I would like to focus my attention now on what is in the way. It is obvious that modern technologies in medicine are increasingly becoming personalized. This is due to the natural diversity of people, and today we have almost exhausted the potential of universal, “broad” medicines. Science is beginning to solve problems that previously seemed unthinkable by interfering with the human genetic code, with the mutations with which he was born. The problem is that this success is too expensive, both financially and in terms of the complexity of the procedure itself. And every time it is too expensive and difficult to create new personalized medicines from scratch. The solution to this issue is the platform nature of the technologies being created. Existing technologies (AV viruses, gene replacement therapy, gene editing) are already quite universal. All that remains is to adapt legislation to serial treatment without sacrificing ethics and safety."
Sergey Lukyanov also presented the experience of Pirogov University as a unique full-cycle platform for the development of personalized gene therapy.:
"Pirogov University is a unique platform that has created a full cycle for personalized gene therapy: geneticists who make diagnoses; genetic engineering specialists who are able to assemble and develop a medicinal substance in a short time; rehabilitation specialists. According to our estimates, the development of personalized gene therapeutics will not be too expensive. Thanks to the support of the Russian Ministry of Health, a production center for such drugs is currently being built at Pirogov University.; With the completion of the construction, wide opportunities for medical tourism will open up, which will be a serious advantage for the country. We are actively working in this direction and are very optimistic about the future."
Thus, the development of platform biotechnologies and the creation of a full-cycle infrastructure form the basis for the transition to a more accurate and affordable model of medical care that can ensure the long-term development of personalized medicine in Russia.
