During the discussion, representatives of leading Russian universities discussed a project to improve higher education, the formation of a fundamental educational core, strengthening practical training of students and the introduction of modern technologies.
Giorgi Nadareishvili stressed the special importance of Pirogov University's participation in the pilot project to improve the higher education system.
"The participation of universities of the Russian Ministry of Health in the pilot project of a new model of higher education is of key importance. This is due to two factors: the rapid development of biomedical technologies, which requires constant updating of educational programs, and the need to increase the number of doctors in demand in various regions of the country," said Giorgi Nadareishvili.
The first Vice-rector presented new educational programs that will be implemented at Pirogov University as part of a pilot project. Among them are fundamental pediatrics, aimed at the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases in children using gene therapy technologies, as well as a master's degree in the management of genetic programs.
He paid special attention to the new model of discrete residency, which provides an opportunity for residents to start practical work after the first year of study, followed by deepening into a narrow specialization. According to him, this approach will speed up the training of in-demand specialists and more quickly meet the staffing needs of the regions.
In addition, Giorgi Nadareishvili stressed the importance of forming a single fundamental and humanitarian core of medical education, providing a comparable level of training for students in different regions of the country and facilitating academic mobility between universities.
The participants of the round table agreed that the new model of higher education should provide training for specialists who are able to quickly adapt to technological changes and effectively respond to the demands of the economy and the social sphere.
Pirogov University's participation in the pilot project is of strategic importance for medical education. The University is becoming a key platform for testing new approaches to training doctors, introducing biomedical technologies and shaping the education model of the future.
