The conference was opened by the head of the Department of the History of Medicine and Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Galina Kovtyukh, emphasizing the importance of this event, the difficult tasks facing education and upbringing, when a doctor must be not only a highly professional specialist, but also a highly moral patriot of his Homeland, the cause he serves, where young medical personnel are being formed.
Olga Prirodova, Vice-Rector for Postgraduate and Additional Education, and Konstantin Fursov, Director of the Institute of World Medicine, delivered welcoming speeches.
The conference featured interesting, relevant, and exciting reports from luminaries of medical science and practice. Among them is a speech by the head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the NIKI of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery. Academician Yu.E. Veltishchev, Anton Gorokhov, who emphasized the demographic consequences of wartime and medical and social aspects. Head of the Scientific Department of Kidney and Pancreatic Transplantation at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute, Aslan Balkarov, presented new scientific discoveries of transplantology, including the first hand transplant performed in our country.
The conference was held on the eve of the celebration of the Great Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War.
Igor Levchuk, Head of the Department of Disaster Medicine, spoke about the participation of medical workers during the war and their contribution to Victory. The same topic was raised in the reports of the teachers of the Department of History of Medicine and Social Sciences and Humanities of the IMM. Thus, it was addressed in the report by Daria Zolotareva "Obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics in besieged Leningrad." The issue of training medical personnel during the war years was highlighted in a scientific report by Vladimir Cherenkov and Tatiana Cherenkova. The interaction of sports and medicine was discussed in the report of Roman Zhdanov.
An important aspect of the conference was the presentation by Alexander Chemezov — Head of the Department of Public Health and Public Health. Academician Y.P. Lisitsyn of the Solovyov IPM. The speaker comprehensively disclosed methodological approaches to the preparation of curricula in the field of "Medical business." The report was prepared jointly with the Honorary Head of the Department, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Natalia Polunina, who attended the conference.
The conference raised many questions about current medical issues, and was attended by more than 500 people — teachers, students, postgraduates, and young scientists.
