The Triumph of Science and continuity: from Academic tradition to Revolution in immunology

The central event of the solemn Academic Council was a speech by the scientific director of the Nasonova Research Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Advisor to the Rector of Pirogov University, Evgeny Nasonov.

The report was devoted to the results of many years of research on autoimmunity and auto-inflammation. Evgeny Lvovich spoke about the rapidly changing understanding of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases and how fundamental immunology is becoming a tool for real clinical impact. An overview of modern therapeutic approaches was also presented, from targeted and B—cell therapy to cellular technologies and CAR-T, which are changing the way we treat chronic diseases and forming a new paradigm of medicine.

E. Nasonov paid special attention to the concept of "immune reset", which opens up prospects for long-term drug-free remission and is receiving scientific confirmation in modern research.

"It is assumed that it is indeed possible to reprogram the immune system. It is not yet fully clear exactly how this happens, and there are many open questions here. However, the results already obtained represent a tremendous achievement of modern medicine and open up great prospects for the further development of this field," said Evgeny Nasonov.

E. Nasonov's acceptance speech was especially warmly received by the audience. Sergey Lukyanov, Rector of Pirogov University, emphasized the importance of scientific research that helps to better understand the complex mechanisms of autoimmunity and auto-inflammation, as well as form the basis for future scientific and medical breakthroughs.

In addition to the Assembly speech, the program of the solemn Academic Council included an official part, in which the chairman of the commission, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Poryadin spoke about the preparations for the Conference on the election of the rector. Also, within the framework of the academic council, speeches were made by the scientific director of the IMD, the president of the NMIC DGOI named after. Dmitry Rogachev, Alexander Rumyantsev, and Alesya Klimenko, Deputy Director of the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University. Then the award ceremony took place.

The gold medal "For Outstanding Achievements" was awarded to Elena Petryaikina, Director of the RDKB branch of Pirogov University. The title "Honorary Professor of Pirogov University" was awarded to Evgeny Nasonov and Sergey Danilov, head of the laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The winners of the competition for the best textbook and teaching materials were also awarded. The first prize in the category "Textbooks regardless of the profile of the discipline" was awarded to the author's team led by Galina Kovtyukh for the textbook "History of Medicine". In the nomination "Textbooks in the humanities, socio-economic, natural science and mathematical disciplines", the first prize was awarded to the team of authors led by Ivan Shishkov for the teaching aid "Philosophy", as well as the team of authors led by Tatyana Shchedrina for a set of teaching aids. In the category "Clinical Disciplines", the first prize was awarded to the teams of authors led by Natalia Orlova and Olga Milushkina, as well as under the leadership of Alesya Klimenko. The second prize in this nomination was awarded to the team of authors led by Vera Larina and the team of authors led by Natalia Vasilyevna Orlova. The third prize in the nomination "Clinical Disciplines" was awarded to the team of authors led by Konstantin Laktionov and the team led by Elena Reznik. In the nomination "Biomedical, medical and preventive disciplines", the first prize was awarded to the team of authors led by Sergey Shemyakov for the textbook "Anatomy of a child".
