Victory in the fight against pediatric oncology is possible: another lecture from the series "Pediatrics and Perinatology" was held at Pirogov University

The speaker was Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Polyakov, a Soviet and Russian oncologist and specialist in pediatric oncology.

Vladimir Polyakov shared his deep knowledge and practical experience in the field of pediatric oncology, talked about the history and key stages of the development of this field of medicine, as well as what methods of modern diagnosis and treatment are used by practitioners and researchers.

Oncological diseases are a serious problem in pediatrics. The diagnosis of tumors in children is difficult due to the nonspecificity of symptoms, the inability to collect a complete medical history, and limitations in instrumental examinations. Treatment is usually combined: surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.

Nevertheless, in recent decades, the survival rate of children has increased significantly due to individual treatment regimens, innovations (targeted and immunotherapy) and new technologies (robotic surgery, proton therapy).

The meeting provided the participants with an opportunity to exchange knowledge and broaden their professional horizons. Students, residents and doctors specializing in children's health actively shared their experiences and discussed topical issues.
