In addition, during the visit, a meeting was held with the leadership of the center, heads of scientific laboratories and the Institute for the Study of Aging.
Sergey Lukyanov addressed the staff of the Russian Scientific Research Center of Pirogov University and spoke about the possibilities of the research unit that the University implements. In particular, he elaborated on a number of projects in the field of drug development and technology: next-generation sequencing, microscopy, organic synthesis, gene therapy for hereditary diseases and cellular technologies.
All stages of personalized treatment of orphan genetic diseases are being worked out at Pirogov University, from sampling and diagnosis to drug manufacturing and validation. The Neurotrophy technology project for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases is functioning. The construction of a GMP production facility has begun.
Speaking about new projects, the rector of the University noted that "This is a new one where we are becoming leaders, and we are already being copied. Research projects are distinguished by the fact that they are quite serious and long-term financing. Because neither medicines nor medical technologies are created in one or three years."
Sergey Lukyanov emphasized that a number of projects will be carried out in cooperation with the RGNCC.
