The 56th donor: “Joining the register should be conscious”

In early April, the 56th donation of hematopoietic stem cells took place in the Bone Marrow Donor Registry of Pirogov University. The donor was Natalia Biserova.

Natalya joined the register at the end of 2023, after an acquaintance of hers fell ill. Before that the girl did not think about it seriously, but then she realized that she could help. The genotype match happened a year later. Natalia's decision was a conscious one, so she donated blood for confirmatory HLA typing in the KDL laboratory on the same day.

“My loved ones were calm at first, but when they found out that the match was confirmed and I was preparing for donation, they became a little worried. I think it's normal - loved ones often fear for our health. But no one discouraged me,” Natalia recalls.

The girl trusted the specialists of the registry because she knew that the donation process was safe and the organization would definitely not leave her alone. The process of stimulation of stem cells into the bloodstream was easy for Natalya, there was a little bit of pain and temperature, but no painkillers were needed. The donation itself went well.

“I have two children: the eldest is 15 and the youngest is soon to be 14. If one day they say they want to join the registry, I will definitely not be against it and will support their decision. I believe that joining the register should be a conscious step. If there are doubts, it is better to talk to your loved ones first, to weigh everything and think it over, because when the time comes to help, you need to be ready,” Natalia shares.

We are proud of our donors. Each of them is a person who at an important moment said to himself: “I can and I will help”.
