The future donor used to donate only whole blood, but in 2024 he learned about the opportunity to become a potential bone marrow donor through the portal of state services. Macarius donated one tube of blood at the KDL laboratory for HLA typing, and he was soon informed of a genotype match. The young man admitted that joining the Registry was a conscious decision and did not cause him any fears for his own health.
“Close friends respected my decision, many of them thought about joining the Federal Registry when I started telling them about my preparation for donation. As a rule, people start to like what they know, especially when you don't present them with dry theory, but with personal experience,”Macarius shared.
Due to his busy schedule, the future donor thought that it would be difficult to combine bone marrow donation and his professional activity, but all the difficulties were eventually resolved. Stimulation of the output of hematopoietic stem cells into the bloodstream was easy for the young man, symptoms appeared only on the third day. The donation itself also went well. Macarius is sure that everything turned out in the best possible way, because he made a firm decision to become a donor and did not back down from his desire.
“I had an incident that had a big impact on my outlook. When I was in first grade, my piano teacher asked me a question, “What do you think is the worst sin?” I went through a lot of things: bullying, being rude, stealing. She answered that it was bad, but there was an act much worse. I still couldn't answer, and then the teacher said: “Makarii, remember for life: the worst sin on Earth is indifference”, — said the young man.
We are proud of Makary and grateful to him for saving his life!
