Elizaveta entered the Federal Register in the fall of 2023 by donating a tube of blood in the KDL laboratory. The girl constantly met information about bone marrow donation, so when she saw a poster at the Blood Center, she decided to learn more about it. The genotype match happened as early as December 2024.
“When I realized everything, I was ready to give blood for confirmatory typing the very next day. After the conversation there were so many emotions that I burst into tears,” recalls Elizaveta.
The answer from the transplant center came in February. At that time the girl had no doubts about the decision. Apheresis was chosen as the method of hematopoietic stem cell harvesting, which requires stimulation of stem cells from the bone marrow into the bloodstream. The donation process took about five hours.
During the stimulation, Elizabeth lived in a hotel, lay down and rested a lot. She was bothered by back pain, which went away after taking pain pills. Before the donation, the girl felt good and easily tolerated the procedure.
“When I first joined the Federal Register, I told everyone that I was now a potential bone marrow donor. I encountered people's incomprehensible fears: some people don't even donate whole blood, let alone join the Registry. I don't know how I can't help a person if I can,” shares Elizaveta.
The girl admits that she would like to meet her recipient in the future. Thanks to people like Elizaveta, patients with serious illnesses have a chance to recover. Thank you for your responsiveness and caring!
