Symphony of Mercy: how musicians and doctors in Moscow talk about bone marrow donation

Art and medicine have joined forces in an effort to save lives: the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors Students of Pirogov University held a joint action.

An event of special significance took place within the walls of the Moscow Conservatory — the meeting of two different worlds united by a humanistic mission. The organ concert and the educational lecture created a unique space for dialogue about the most valuable thing — human life.

The famous performer Makariy Chirkov performed at the organ. This year, his skill gained a new, deep dimension: the musician became a bone marrow donor and gave someone a chance at life. The sound of the organ in his performance spoke of the fragility and strength of human existence.

A lecture on donation was held for students and teachers of the Conservatory, which was conducted by Ksenia Dyuzhina, Deputy head of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry at Pirogov University. Her story was based on personal experience, because Ksenia is not only an expert, but also went through the donation procedure herself.

The audience showed keen interest: the guests asked questions about the safety of the procedure, the intricacies of transplantation and how to join the Registry. It became clear that bone marrow donation was not an abstract medical manipulation, but a real life—saving act.

The event ended with the feeling that music and medicine made a single speech about compassion, responsibility and hope.
