Russian doctors held a campaign to diagnose melanoma in Tanzania

An event dedicated to the World Melanoma Diagnosis Day was held in Dar es Salaam, on the basis of the Russian Center for Science and Culture.

The action was organized by the National Alliance of Dermatovenerologists and Cosmetologists (NADK) with the support of the Russian Embassy in Tanzania, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the Ministry of Health of Tanzania. Within the framework of the program, a master class on dermatoscopy was held and an examination of patients was organized in order to identify malignant neoplasms of the skin. The examination was conducted by Olga Rassokhina, a member of the NADC, Associate Professor of the Department of Skin Diseases and Cosmetology at the Institute of Advanced Medical Training at the National Medical and Surgical Center named after N.I. Pirogov, PhD.

The NADC initiative has aroused great interest in Tanzania. The lecture and master class brought together doctors, including five professors from local medical universities. Olga I. Rassokhina shared her 18 years of experience in organizing the Melanoma Diagnosis Day in Russia, noting that this initiative led to an increase in the detection of melanoma and skin cancer in the early stages, which contributed to a reduction in mortality from these diseases.

During the day, patients were examined, including local residents, compatriots and foreign citizens. The master class was attended by specialists from such medical institutions as Ocean Road Cancer Institute, Muhimbili National Hospital, Aga Khan Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Medical University, as well as Representatives of the Tanzania Albinism Society.
