For Pirogov University, this event has a special meaning: it continues the traditions established by the legendary graduates – the Znamensky brothers, who became track and field stars in the 1930s.
From 1933 to 1940, the Znamensky brothers set 24 USSR records in individual races. Georgy and Seraphim Znamensky won 11 titles of the Soviet Union champion and six times became prize-winners of the national championships.
Today, four teams from Pirogov University ran along the same streets where the Znamensky brothers once competed.
"The idea to take part in the relay did not arise by chance: we wanted to support our Sports Club, whose successes we are proud of. We believe in the victories of the guys not only in sports, but also in studies, science, medicine.
To find ourselves on the empty Garden Ring at six in the morning on Saturday and run shoulder to shoulder with like-minded people is a great pleasure and good luck!" said Olga Milushkin. - shared Olga Milushkina, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Pirogov University.
