Pirogov University hosted the first lecture from the cycle “Pediatrics and Perinatology: Personalized Approach, Prevention and Rehabilitation”

During the meeting, a graduate of the Pediatrics Department of Pirogov University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Rumyantsev spoke about the formation of a child's immunity before birth. The listeners learned about modern achievements of pediatrics and perinatology related to the development of the immune system of the fetus and newborn.

The immune system begins to form in utero. A human being is a kind of “chimera”, as it contains cells inherited from the mother and even from previous generations (microchimerism). Currently, scientists are actively studying the relationship of microchimerism with congenital immunity defects and autoimmune disorders. The expert emphasized the importance of introducing into clinical practice early diagnosis of rare immune diseases even before birth, as well as creating tests to assess the functioning of the immune system in the fetus, newborns and young children.

Special attention was paid to the role of intestinal microbiota in the formation of immunity. In the future, this opens prospects for the development of specialized diets and drugs aimed at strengthening the immune system.

The event gathered more than 100 participants in person, and about 200 people connected in the online format. At the end of the lecture, the speaker answered numerous questions from the audience.
