Pirogov Fest: more than an open day!

On September 13, Pirogov University hosted a large-scale celebration of science and medicine, which brought together more than 2,500 guests. The main characters of the Pirogov Fest festival are schoolchildren who dream of connecting their lives with medicine and science, as well as their parents.

The bright start of the festival was the unique performance "The Time of Doctors", prepared by the creative teams of the University. The production immersed the audience in the history of medicine, reviving great scientists on the stage — from Hippocrates and Nikolai Pirogov to Christian Barnard.

Special attention was paid at the festival to practical advice for future applicants. Lydia Ilyenko, Director of the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University, an outstanding pediatrician, emphasized that the University provides students not only with fundamental knowledge, but also with a unique practice in the best clinics in Moscow.

The role of Pirogov University in the development of volunteerism was also discussed at the festival. The speakers, including State Duma deputy Badma Bashankayev, spoke about important initiatives in the field of medical rehabilitation and donation. For example, the University has created a Federal Registry of bone Marrow donors and developed innovations such as "Exocyst-M with VR add-on" for rehabilitation after strokes.

Vladislav Belyakova, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy at Pirogov University, spoke enthusiastically about the volunteer projects that students have been involved in since their first year. She shared the story of her first experience, the charity run of the ORBI Foundation: "Rehabilitation is like a marathon race: it's a long—term job, where it's easy to roll back if you go along with weakness." These words reflect not only the essence of recovery from illness, but also the path of a doctor in the profession.

The stories of successful graduates have become a vivid confirmation of the quality of education at the University. Doctors of various specialties unanimously thanked the alma mater for a solid foundation of knowledge and a culture of patient care. Pediatrician Zaur Khatshukov, a 2019 graduate and now a lecturer, said: "I am grateful that we can take all the opportunities from the University and become part of a strong professional community."

Today, Pirogov University is the only medical university in Russia with the status of a national research university. It is the flagship of science and the development of new drugs. There are 100 scientific circles at the University, where students improve their knowledge in practice under the guidance of outstanding teachers.

University scientists are working on medicines against diseases that are considered incurable, and actively cooperate with the world's leading biomedical centers. In 2025, Pirogov University accepted 2,500 new students into its ranks — all those who brilliantly passed exams and won Olympiads. They are the doctors and scientists of the future who will create new medical technologies tomorrow.

The highlight of the program was the master class area, which was loved by guests of all ages! Here you could learn how to provide first aid, perform laparoscopic surgery, and even create your own medicine.

Traditionally, the festival hosted a charity fair, a donor event and various sporting events.

And it all ended with a tour of the University building, where the guests saw the famous mosaic panels "Human Healing" and "Council of Great Doctors" depicting luminaries of medicine from Hippocrates to Nikolai Pirogov himself.
