Pediatric cardiology: the future is already here!

Within the framework of the lecture series “Pediatrics and Perinatology” the expert of Pirogov University, Professor Igor Kovalyov spoke about modern methods of treatment of children with cardiac pathology and approaches that are already changing medicine today.

The main figures:

  • 57 young patients have received mechanical circulatory support systems over 3 years
  • 85% of children show significant improvement after six months.

These results confirm: today's technology really saves lives!

Promising areas of development:

  • Multidisciplinary teams — now the treatment of each child is developed individually, taking into account all the peculiarities of his or her health.
  • Genetics and genome editing — modern technologies make it possible to create drugs that fight disease at the molecular level.
  • Tissue engineering — in the future, the use of stem cells and biomaterials for heart tissue repair can change cardiology.

The expert emphasized: early diagnosis, accessible medicine and competent rehabilitation are the main factors of success. The lecture was a glimpse into the future, where technology and practice work together to save the most valuable thing — children's hearts.
