Sterile inflammation is one of the main factors of accelerated aging and the development of age—related diseases. It is associated with atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, neurodegeneration, osteoarthritis and sarcopenia.
"Our project is related to the search for targets to control inflammation and the development of approaches to prevent age—related changes," explains Alexey Churov, director of the Institute for the Study of Aging at the Russian National Research Center.
Scientists will investigate biologically active compounds, including those that have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. The project will create a digital platform based on artificial intelligence and molecular docking to speed up and reduce the cost of searching for promising substances.
The first stage of the project was launched in July 2025. A leading Chinese scientist is coming to Russia soon to discuss the details. The researchers hope not only to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of aging, but also to develop new candidate substances and compositions to combat atherosclerosis and inflammation.
The project combines advanced scientific technologies, international cooperation and the centuries-old experience of traditional medicine to offer new solutions for healthy longevity.
