How to defeat aging and immunodeficiency: the first lecture on perinatology and pediatrics was held at Pirogov University

The speaker was Alexander Rumyantsev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the National Research Medical Center named after him. Dmitry Rogachev and Honorary Professor of Pirogov University. The meeting began with an introductory speech by Sergey Lukyanov, Rector of Pirogov University.

"Alexander Rumyantsev managed to build a bridge that facilitates the transition of modern knowledge into medicine. This knowledge is fundamental and deep, which becomes practical and is used to treat people,"Sergei Lukyanov outlined the lecturer's significant contribution to Russian medicine.

During the lecture, Alexander Rumyantsev said that most infections in the human body are related to the state of the microbiota, which is formed in early childhood and has a decisive impact on health.

According to him, the basis of immunity is innate immune cells, which are responsible for protecting the body from infectious agents. It is especially important that many immunodeficiencies are the result of genetic mutations and that they can be detected at an early age using neonatal screening.

The lecture participants learned that aging is associated with the accumulation of defects in cells. These disorders weaken the immune system and increase the risk of age-related diseases. Modern methods make it possible to detect such changes and develop preventive measures. At the end of the meeting, there was an active discussion on the topic of the lecture.

The event was concluded by Lidiya Ilyenko, Director of the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University, who emphasized the importance of the lecture and its relevance for undergraduates studying preclinical and morphological disciplines. She noted that students can consider the topic from the most modern scientific positions, which, of course, contributes to the development of large-scale thinking and interest in science.
