Vice-Rector for Research Denis Rebrikov spoke in the section "Gene replacement therapy of hereditary diseases", telling about the large-scale work on the creation of gene therapy drugs for the treatment of orphan diseases at the University:
"As a rule, these are rare diseases that manifest themselves in childhood. To implement the project, the university is building a GMP-compliant production building, which will allow it to develop and produce a wide range of such drugs on its own."
Elena Skorobogatova, Head of the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation at the RDCB branch of Pirogov University, participated in the section "Hereditary diseases. The optimal timing of allo-TGSK," noted:
"Our department has accumulated a unique experience in bone marrow transplantation in patients with orphan neurodegenerative diseases. We were the first in Russia to start such treatment. This allowed us to create our own practices on the modes of preparation for transplantation and post-transplant management."
Special attention at the congress was paid to the work of the bone marrow donor registry of Pirogov University, which was highly appreciated by the community.
In the section "Bone Marrow Donor Registry" Tigran Muradyan, Head of the Medical Department and Head of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry, made a speech.
"Every new donor on the register is not just a number. This is a real opportunity for the patient to receive help and a chance at life. That is why we are so carefully building all the stages — from recruitment to transplantation," he stressed.
The team also included Ksenia Dyuzhina, Deputy head of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry, and Yulia Nikolaeva, doctor of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Department at the RDCB. Participation in the congress of Pirogov University specialists demonstrated the University's comprehensive approach — from fundamental scientific research and organization of donation to the introduction of advanced treatment methods into clinical practice.
