82nd donor: "One chance in tens of thousands, and it fell to you"

In September 2025, in the Registry of Bone Marrow Donors at Pirogov University the 82nd donation took place. The donor was Alexandra Chechkina from Moscow, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University.

Alexandra learned about the Registry during the Donor Day at Moscow State University. Being an experienced blood donor with more than 15 donations, she donated blood for typing without hesitation.

A call from the Registry found her on vacation. "I was at the seaside, relaxing. And then it turned out that everything was surprisingly accurate. My job involves business trips, I rarely stay in Moscow for so long, but here everything coincided by dates. It seems to me that this is fate,"Alexandra shared.

Relatives reacted to the news with caution, but their questions only helped the donor to make sure that the decision was correct: "I read the materials sent by the Registry staff again, after that there was no doubt."

For the first few days of stimulation, Alexandra led a normal lifestyle and taught, but then weakness appeared. The donation procedure itself lasted about five and a half hours. After that, Alexandra quickly recovered and immediately returned to work to take the exam with the students.

Alexandra admits that the coincidence was a real miracle for her: "As a mathematician, I understand how low the probability of a coincidence is. One chance in tens of thousands, and it fell to you. It's so amazing that it's impossible not to help. I think that's why we need to register: the probability is low, but if a match happens, then it should have happened."

We would like to express our gratitude to Alexandra for her caring attitude and willingness to help a person for whom this help is vital!
