75th donor: "The only goal is to help another person"

August 2025 was marked by another donation in the Bone Marrow Donor Registry at Pirogov University. Irina Churochkina, Senior clerk and specialist in regulatory information at MedInvestGroup, became the 75th donor.

She first learned about bone marrow donation at a corporate blood donation event.

"I came to donate blood, and there I was offered to join the Federal Register. That was in November 2022. I agreed, and to be honest, I almost forgot afterwards. Only the other day, when I saw the donor's stand again, I remembered that I was on the Register,"Irina says.

She was contacted only three years later. "They said there was someone I could help. I immediately agreed, I didn't even think about consulting anyone,"Irina shared. — I told my family and friends only after the confirmation typing. Everyone supported me, saying that I was doing well. Mom just asked: “Is everything going to be okay?” I said, "Of course, yes."

The preparation for the donation was quiet. The examinations and stimulation did not cause any serious difficulties. The procedure itself lasted about five hours.

"On the third day, I felt like I had overtrained a lot: aches in my bones and muscles. I took one nurofen pill, and everything went away. I watched the cartoon ”Tom and Jerry“, then the movie "Gladiator". I dozed off a bit, and after a short nap I felt great. The next day I woke up feeling great and thought, “I can do it again.” My family and friends have been with me all week. The Registry staff, the doctors, took care of everything, for which I am very grateful," the girl recalls.

Irina still finds it hard to believe that she really saved another person's life, but she is very happy about it: "The only goal is to help another person. I was surprised: “It's a miracle that among thousands of people there was someone I fit.” We're not related, but we have the same genotype. It's unbelievable."

We remind you that at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital, a branch of Pirogov University, regular donors of blood and components, as well as hospital staff and students, can join the Federal Register. It is necessary to inform the transfusiologist about the admission during the medical examination. For more information, follow the link.
