The girl has always wanted to become a blood donor, and now her dream has come true. At the clinic of the Moscow Regional Scientific Research Clinical Institute named after M.F. Vladimirsky, she read the announcement of bone marrow donation and learned how to join the Registry.
A few years later, Olga was contacted and informed that her stem cells could help a person who found himself in a difficult situation.
"I took a blood test for confirmatory typing, and the long wait began. A few months later, they informed me that I was not suitable. I exhaled and decided that the story was over. And then, less than a month later, the call came again: “Olga, you're coming!” I didn't even tell anyone until the last moment, because I was afraid that I would say it out loud and everything would fall apart. It seemed like it was from the category of fiction,"Olga recalls.
According to her, the procedure went smoothly. Her friend, the young man and his mother, Registry specialists, as well as doctors from the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital, a branch of Pirogov University, closely monitored her condition and provided all possible support. The donation itself lasted about four hours.
"Everything turned out to be easier than I expected: I lay down, dozed a little, sometimes I sat. There were no severe sensations, just mild fatigue and drowsiness after the last injections for stimulation," she says.
Olga's example was followed by her friends: some have already joined the Register, while others are preparing.
"Absolutely everyone can help. Yes, the chance of a match is small, but someone may be the only medicine for the patient. Everything is organized safely and competently. You can help just because you are there, and that's great," says Olga.
We remind you that at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital, a branch of Pirogov University, regular donors of blood and components, as well as hospital staff and students, can join the Federal Register. It is necessary to inform the transfusiologist about the admission during the medical examination. For more information, follow the link.
