A bachelor's degree is required for applicants. We welcome graduates of the bachelor degree in biology as well as in areas related to programming and applied mathematics. The proposed master program may also be interesting as a second higher education for doctors, biologists, or other professionals who would like to acquire the skills of medical bioinformatics.
Applicants pass an examination test (combined test) for knowledge of Biology and Computer Science.
New technologies of biomedicine are rapidly developing today. Their development leads to the possibility of quickly obtaining data on human genomes and transcriptomes, as well as on the genomes and transcriptomes of bacteria and viruses that affect human health. Several thousand genetic diseases are associated with mutations. Genomic and bioinformatic research allows revealing the risks of disease development. Bioinformatics is becoming increasingly important in oncology, when molecular studies of patient's tumor cells allow for the targeted selection of the most effective treatment. For data analysis, special computer programs and databases are used. Possession of them is necessary for implementation in the practice of personalized medicine.
The goal of the Master's program “Medical Bioinformatics” is to train specialists who can use bioinformatics methods in medical and clinical research, as well as in the search and creation of new medicinal substances.
Special electives aimed at studying programming, mathematical methods of data analysis, information and communication technologies, designing a database and creating Internet applications are provided for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology or have a Medical degree.
Electives in biochemistry, genetics, physiology, general pathology and molecular biology, molecular pharmacology, microbiology, and virology are provided for students without a biological education
An opportunity to choose individual plan of learning, as well as the main focus to use bioinformatics methods in medical and clinical research, in the search and creation of new medicinal substances are unique features of the proposed program, compared to the well-known bioinformatics master programs in other universities.
Student of the master's program will receive competencies in the analysis of large-scale sequencing data and mass spectrometry results. He will be able to analyze biological and medical images, use machine learning methods to process biological, chemical and medical data, perform three-dimensional modeling of proteins and use it to search for new drugs. He will master the methods of creating pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models of drugs and will be able to describe the behavior of drugs in the human body. He will be able to use of bioinformatics methods for searching for new drug targets and biomarkers, for creating models describing the relationship between the structures of chemical compounds and their biological effects.
A graduate who has mastered the master's program “Medical Bioinformatics” and has successfully passed the state final certification with the defense of the final qualifying work is awarded the master's qualification in the field of preparation “06.04.01 Biology”.
Graduates of the magistracy are desirable employees in biomedical institutes, private medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies, public and private clinics around the world.
Graduates can continue their education in PhD School in the field of "Biological Sciences" in the specialty "Mathematical Biology, Bioinformatics".
