Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University is one of the oldest medical universities in Russia that is well-known all around the world. In 2021, the University celebrated its 115th anniversary.
Our University is the first organization in Russia that provided women with the opportunity to get higher medical education. World’s first Faculty of Pediatrics was established at Pirogov University and served as a model for creating such departments at universities worldwide. The School of Biomedicine, opened at our University in 1963, was also one of the first in the world.
Active participation in medical activities and the development of healthcare, constant support for scientific research and the introduction of innovations allow us to maintain a leading position in Russian medical education.
Today the University is a complex of educational, scientific and medical divisions and centers, offering educational programs of all levels in clinical medicine, biomedicine, psychology, social work and pharmacy.
The University organizes its academic activities in 115 academic departments, which are divided into 15 institutes. More than 2.000 professors provide lectures, seminars and laboratory classes in medical and natural sciences in more than 250 courses.
We are actively involved in the research and implementation of our developments in clinical practice. In 2010, we became the only one among medical education centres to receive the status of a National Research University.
The University’s clinical centers offer modern treatment for children and adults of all ages. We also conduct active preclinical and clinical studies of new drugs and medical equipment.

There is а comfortable dormitory for our students, a well-equipped sports center and library with needed materials and Internet access. We also have а recreation camp located on the Volga where you can spend wonderful holidays both in winter and summer.
We are constantly improving our curriculum and developing the structure of the University. In 2019, we entered the respected international ratings of educational organizations "THE" and “QS”.
The University is actively involved in the development of system of continuing professional education and the accreditation of medical specialists.
We also pay attention to pre-university study and the search for talented applicants. For schoolchildren, we offer a variety of activities, including a summer school in medicine, a weekly lecture hall, workshops and preparatory courses in Russian and English.
Since 1959, we have been accepting international students. Now University can offer English-speaking programs for them.
